'''36. A Few Early Garages''' The first garage in Miles City was in the remodeled sash and door factory at the corner of 5th and Pleasant Streets and was operated by Sol and Rolla Heren. The second was in the old Northern Lumber Company building at the corner of 7th and Palmer, owned by Lakin Brothers at the time. This is the site now occupied by the Nance Motor operations. Then there was a building at the corner of Main and Montana--the present Chuck Walters Garage. A little later the Stacy building was constructed. This was occupied by the Ford Garage for many years and now houses the bowling alley. Then the following in order -- the Olive Garage -- the building just west of the St. Paul hotel on Washington Street -- the Parkview Garage operated by Gus Nergaard and now the present Eddy Bakery Building -- the remodeled livery stable on the southwest corner of 7th and Bridge, now occupied by the Hatch Motor. Ross Calvin built the building now occupied by J. P. Johnson with his Miles City Motor Company. John Kuilman purchased the site at the northwest corner of Main and Eleventh and built a garage -- the property had been purchased by the Odd Fellows with plans for erecting a temple on the site, but plans fell through. John Rawson purchased the old Maples property at the SE corner of Main and llth, and built the building now occupied by Bud's 76 Station and the Custer Motors. The Provost Motor Company purchased the old Northern Motor building at the corner of Bridge and 6th and remodeled it. Then we have the Ford Garage and the Boutelle building, both of which were built by Ed Love.
