The "Gemeindelexikon" is perhaps the secondmost important gazetteer for German reseach. It is arranged by politicaljurisdictions, that is, each volume covers one-to-three Prussian provinces.Within each province, the material is divided into Kreise ("counties").And within each Kreise, the communities are further organized into typesof community. Within those categories, the list of communities is presentedin alphabetic order.
The material is presented in the form of a table. Various statisticsfor each community are provided, including: area, # of buildings, # of menof fighting age, ave. taxable value of the land, population broken downby religion and language-spoken, as well as the names of the communitieswhere the civil registration office and Catholic and Protestant churcheswere located.
