Billiard and pool tables: $10/qtr Theatres and for profit performances: $2/mo Circuses: $50/dy, $5/day each sideshow Pawnbrokers: $20/qtr Intelligence office: $5/qtr Professionals: $16/yr (lawyers, dentists, doctors, insurance agents, real estate agents) Assayers: $5/qtr (doing $200-$500/mo business); $10/qtr (more than $500/mo) Livery & feed stables, express, transfer & freight wagons: Livery & feed stables: $15/qtr; $2.50/qtr for each buggy, carriage & sleigh, if more than one Hay yards, corrals: $8/qtr Omnibuses, carriages, express wagons, transfer & freight wagons: (if for hire/profit, in towns bigger than 500 ppl) $2.50/qtr per horse per vehicle Merchants (with fixed place of business): sales>$10,000 $40/qtr; $5-10,000 $20/qtr; $2-5,000 $15/qtr; $1-2000 $10/qtr $500-1000 $5/qtr; <$500 $3/qtr Auctioneers: Livestock in town > 2000 ppl $25/qtr; else $10/qtr; Property in town > 2000: $15/qtr; else$10/qtr or $5/mo Restaurants, lodging houses, boarding houses and hotels: within 1 mile of any town: $2.50/qtr per $2000 in sales ($2.50 minimum) plus sworn statement of sales ea qtr; outside of towns, no fee Retail liquor: [<1 gallon dispense] Towns>3500, $550/yr; 1000-3500, $325/yr; 300-1000, $240/yr; <300, $180/yr; ???, $100/yr Satisfy several preconditions to the Clerk, who certifies the to the Treasurer for payment. County commissioners can revoke for breaking rules/laws. Providing booze to minors (under 21), apprentices, servants, Indians, insane or idiotic persons or habitual drunkards: fine of $50 per offense, the informant gets half, and license revoked. Adulterating booze (strychinne, strontia, sugar of lead, other poison) $250 fine per offense, license revoked. Distillers, manufacturer of liquor: $600/yr Wholesale liquor dealers: >1 gal, towns>3500, $200; <3500, $125. Violations: $50/per, half to informant Brewers: sales>$1000/mo, $20/mo; >$500/mo, $10/mo; <$500/mo, $5/mo. Pop, Soda, other non-alchol beverages in bottles: $5/mo. Gambling: >100 ppl, $100/qtr; Faro tables, $40/mo; other tables (poker, blackjack, etc) & Keno rooms & Roulette tables, and any other game, $500/mo; half of previous rates for smaller towns. Violations result in fines of $300-1000 and/or imprisonment of 1-6 months. Informants get half of fines. Licenses must be posted. Traveling merchants, peddlers: $5/qtr. $15/qtr if a wagon is used. $20 if two horses pull the wagon. $5 if just a pack animal is used. No fee if product is all made by the seller locally. Skating rinks: >3000, $50/qtr; <1000, $10/qtr; in between, $25/qtr. Roads, Bridges, Ferries, Water & Incorporated companies: tolls or water charges: sales>$500/qtr, $20/qtr; < $500, $10/qtr; >$1000, $40/qtr; >$2000, $80/qtr; >$5000, $150/qtr; >$10,000, $250/qtr; does not apply to ditches that supply mining, ag, or mfg. They must report to the county treasurer their receipts every qtr, and if they don't, the treasurer can make their best guess and charge that, no appeal allowed. Laundries, if operated by a man, $5/qtr. Lotteries: gift, prize distribution, drawing, $150/qtr. Bowling Allies, Shooting Galleries: $10/qtr. Stage or Express lines: if >$500/qtr, $10/qtr per line, to each county Traveling salesmen: $100/qtr or $300/yr, good for entire territory, paid at any county. License to be checked by every kind of law enforcement. Caught without a license: $50-100 fine. County treasurers are charged with monitoring business activities and getting sworn statements about receipts for all licensed activities. Telephone and telegraph companies: $1/instrument/yr. Gas & Electric Companies: $25/qtr. Counties keep 85% of all license fees collected. Territory gets 15%, plus all territorial license fees. County has a preferential lien on any property of a business convicted of evading the license fees and can seize and sell same to satisfy the fees, plus costs involved in the process. General fine for not getting a required license, $10-100. Any county treasurer who fails to enforce the provisions of the licensing act is liable for double the amounts not collected, plus costs.
