In the early days, advertising wasn't too involved, everyone knew everything that was going on. The major business was alcohol, gambling and entertainment, both legitimate and of the bordello. Saloons offered the first two, and some of the larger ones would send a crier out on the streets: "Keno tonight! [[Charley Brown]]'s! Keno tonight! Charley Brown's!", e.g. Theaters would send the band out to attract attention and draw customers. Signage and bills posted were used, and after the [[Yellowstone Journal|newspaper]] began operation in mid 1879, display and classified advertising became available on a weekly and late a daily basis.
