Hi Astle operated a livery stable on the south half of the 100 block of South Fifth Street in Miles City, Montana, across from Riverside Park, near the Macqueen House which was the stockmen's headquarters during that era. Late in 1891, Hi Astle, Red Kern, George Hockens, William Bement and Jessie Earnest were carousing and fighting near the stable and were arrested for disturbing the peace. Because of an oversight in the wording of the complaint in magistrate court, the 5 were able to get their case thrown out, but had to survive an appeal by the city first.
