[[28 Nov 1881]] Reaches Miles City. [[18 Oct 1882]] The first train crossed the bridge at Bismarck at 5:30. Final trial to take place on Saturday ([[21 Oct 1882]]). Five engines from the west and five from the east will meet on the bridge spanning the Missouri River at Bismarck, to test it and formally open it for traffic. It took three years to build the bridge. [[18 Oct 1882]] White laborers constructing a line near Portland, OR went on strike, demanding $2.50/day. They "bounced" the Chinese because they wouldn't join the strike, and had several hundred "ex-convicts, fugatives from justice and desparadoes" among them. The company has telegraphed for replacement workers and government troops. [[18 Oct 1882]] The RR has named a sleeping car, the "Miles City". It has a smoking compartment and a private drawing room. The conductor [[E. B. Lyon]] is praised. [[18 Oct 1882]] The round house of this division, at Glendive, is nearing completion. [[18 Oct 1882]] A heavy freight train arrived in the evening from the east. [[18 Oct 1882]] ad in YJ: Land Department, N. P. R'y Co. Notice is hereby given that all of that part of the town of Miles City located on the NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 and lots 1 & 3, of section 33, TP 8, Range 47E and not heretofore sold or contracted to be sold by the Northern Pacific Co. is hereby withdrawn from market and sale and reserved for the use of the said company, and all persons are warned not to trespass upon the same. [[Chas. B. Lamborn]], [[Land Commissioner]]. Reached Miles City in ?November 1882, Billings in spring of 1883, Livingston in the fall.
